Democracy and Elections Diplomatic Discussions
Democracy and Elections Subject Reader
This reader contains regional and country-specific interviews of individuals, including U.S. Ambassadors and other diplomatic officials, regarding their engagement with host country counterparts to promote democratic governance and the conduct of elections.
The interviews describe discussions with host country governments about governance issues and the coordination of initiatives among various USG entities and inter-governmental organizations. The discussions reveal the challenges associated with diplomatic engagements involving the promotion of democratic values while maintaining respect for the sovereignty and independence of the host country.
The excerpts are verbatim selections from oral history interviews in the ADST collection. The Topical Focus appearing at the beginning of the excerpts were prepared by ADST interns as part of this project to create a representative Democracy and Elections Subject Reader.
Check out the reader HERE. It’s an ongoing work in progress and new oral histories and countries are being added.
