The United States Foreign Service is turning 100!
The Rogers Act, signed into law in 1924, merged America’s diplomatic and consular services into one, laying the legislative foundations of the modern Foreign Service as a professional, non-partisan career institution. ADST has captured first hand accounts covering the 100 years that followed in its expansive oral history collection, recording the experiences of America’s diplomats across ten decades of service to the United States.
From 1924 to today, practitioners from all U.S. foreign affairs agencies have made extraordinary contributions to advancing our country’s security, prosperity, and ideals; promoting the national interest in concrete ways as they serve American citizens overseas as well as farmers, businesses, and workers back home.
